Clean Streets Campaign

We want people in Bristol to do their bit to help spring clean our city and now is your chance

The Great Bristol Spring Clean on 3-5 March 2017 (part of the Great British Spring Clean) is your opportunity to pick up some litter and put where you live on the map. Join in with schools, community groups and other organisations doing their bit to make your part of the city cleaner and tidier.

Even if you just spend an hour or two picking up litter, bag it and leave it in a designated place where Bristol Waste can collect it, that would make a huge difference to the cleanliness of our streets.

To register your interest please drop an email to hello@bristolwastecompany.co.uk and let them know where and when your litter pick will take place. Twitter #bristolcleanstreets

Save The Lantern Parade

The future of South Bristol’s most popular community event - the Bedminster Winter Lantern Parade - is under threat due to funding cuts.

A BWL Fundraising Brainstorm Meeting has been arranged to see if the community can come up with ideas to make up the shortfall - and sign up to organise and/or help. This meeting will take place at St Francis Church, the Parade’s traditional starting point, on Monday 20 March starting at 7.30pm.

This year's lantern parade was the biggest and best yet, it would be a terrible shame to allow it to be discontinued so please get involved and do what you can to help us keep this event going.

The Chairman of Bedminster Winter Lanterns, Malcolm Brammar, says “This year is looking particularly difficult. There’s likely to be a large hole in our projected budget which could be critical. So we’re asking the community - individuals, groups and local businesses - to get
involved and help us raise funds to continue this very special local event.

Every effort will count: from tea parties to jumble sales, school disco’s to market stalls. We’ll consider anything as long as it’s legal!”

Bedminster Lantern Parade

People of Bedminster and beyond, you are all cordially invited to the Bedminster Lantern Parade.

It was a disappointment to us all when we had to postpone the 2016 parade due to shocking weather, but we're happy to announce that it's back! The new date for the 2016/'17 Lantern Parade is Saturday January 21st

Everything else about the day will stay the same, including road closures timings and entertainment, but do make sure you keep up to date with any new info by coming back here, going to the Facebook group, or joining the super duper rescheduled Facebook event.

East Street Tales

An outdoor photography exhibition documenting everyday life in East Street, Bedminster based photographer Ibolya Feher spent four years documenting the lives of local residents for this distinctive exhibition.

Over the course of four years, Ibolya has documented the residents of this distinctive South Bristol neighbourhood, creating a unique archive of images that will be displayed on East Street and will be freely accessible for everybody.

Photographer Ibolya Feher explains:

“My project is a celebration of life and the people behind the statistics. I am passionate about showing the wider community, the charm of the place and its characters. The work invites the audience to look beyond the usual stereotypes associated with Bedminster and promotes social acceptance and wellbeing, so I am very happy that the result of the last four years of work will be displayed in the area and more importantly that I’ll be able to share it with the local community and everyone that was involved with the project. I hope it will help to bring the community together and that it will beautify the area.”

“This exhibition has been funded via online crowd funding and I am ever so thankful to all of my funders, supporters and Bedminster BID who helped to make this happen.”

Simon Dicken, Chair of the Bedminster Town Team and BID says;

“This is a great project that has taken a number of years and hard work from Ibolya. The photos show the strong community sense there is on East Street. It’s a shopping street primarily but there are loads of well-known characters that make it a really cherished part of South Bristol and Bedminster in particular and we are happy to have helped make this happen for not only the residents but the whole city.”

Photographer and curator of the exhibition, Amak Mahmoodian explains:

“Ibolya lives in the area and her work shows the reality and truth of people’s lives.  Her photos have power, they make you look, see and remember.”
